Bob Bunton's Story

Bob finds it very satisfying to see the fun and joy of the young people who do "Try Sails" with SWD and at 74 he enjoys the fun and camaraderie of SWD.

Bob wants to let people still at work know that there is life after retirement: for him his SWD experience has been among the best years.

Bob went to school in Sri Lanka, Scotland, and Australia. He had a difficult time deciding what he wanted to do before drifting into engineering. Bob has worked in a soap factory in Melbourne, a plastics factory in Montreal, Canada, and a chemical factory, ICI, in Sydney.

He has done a lot of sea travel and has a strong love of ships. Even though he retired in 1996 Bob continues to get a kick out of applying his engineering skills as a volunteer with an organisation called Technical Aid to the Disabled.

Bob has been in a power boat rescue organisation for many years and friends there told him about SWD. He enjoys the way SWD operates, learning about sailing and doesn’t mind being corrected when he does things not consistent with the SWD way.
