faceboat gets ready to sail

Day one of the the preparations for the Northern Campaign, saw lots of people turning out to sort and lug ( lots of lugging)  all the necessaries  from the "cubby", for 6 - 8 people to live on Kayle for the the duration of the Northern Campaign,  (approx 8 weeks) which is no mean feat when the boat in question is a "bare" go fast race boat!  With not even the luxury of a toilet seat!

Day one of the the preparations for the Northern Campaign, saw lots of people turning out to sort and lug ( lots of lugging)  all the necessaries  from the "cubby", for 6 - 8 people to live on faceboat for the the duration of the Northern Campaign,  (approx 8 weeks) which is no mean feat when the boat in question is a "bare" go-fast race boat!  With not even the luxury of a toilet seat!

As well as some 500 odd shirts vacuum packed for the kids with disability the boat is stacked high with everything we need!    We have the rare phenomenon of 4 core crew (dubbed the "Fab Four" by one of the organisers) who will be with the boat the entire 8 weeks!

This crew consists of Gordon who is a veteran of the Northern Campaign having completed the whole thing last year, Kim his lovely partner who races with SWD on Kayle, Ian who has done lots of Try Sails and Winds of Change and myself Kristi, a newbie rookie to SWD this year but loving every second of my journey so far.  I race on Kayle and Winds of Change and Try Sails too.

That leaves our fearless leader/skipper Mark, who has just retired for the Police Force, and is a committed Cruiser and Delivery skipper who has sailed all over the world. Including a 6-9 month stint with his wife and 3 sons in the Mediterranean. There are also people who will join each leg, they might be with us for a couple days or maybe a couple of weeks.

We also have a new piece of Technology on board this year courtesy of our skipper Mark that enables anyone who is interested to log of and watch the boats progress on its way north it gives 10 minute updates to the site as to the boat position, speed and course.
