Robert Speedy's Story

SWD has changed my life and through it I have met a bunch of interesting people and made new valuable friends. I enjoy sailing and how it gives people a different perspective on life.

I did my first Sydney to Hobart with SWD in 2000. After racing in Mackay and spending a lot more time on board, I completed another in 2005.

I have done a lot of sailing since then, including a southerly sail to Hobart and back, on several Northern Campaigns. I’ve sailed in the Winter Series and Wednesday Twilights. One moment that stands out is when I was on the helm and doing 26.4 knots across Bass Strait. Other memorable occasions have included introducing people to sailing and watching their enjoyment.

I joined SWD because I like to sail. Helping people out is a bonus.
